The Brooklyn Birthing Center (BBC) accepts almost all insurance.
Be aware, however, that we can usually work out coverage for those women in the plans we do not accept so that they may deliver with us. If this is your situation, you need to speak with our Office Manager, Regina Groizberg or the Director, Katherine Abelson. We are not always successful, but it's always worth a try.
Further, New York State (NYS) has the Prenatal Care Access Program (PCAP) that provides Medicaid to eligible pregnant women under greatly relaxed income guidelines. If you have no insurance, you must speak with us so that we may assist you with determining eligibility and making application for insurance under PCAP.
You must call your plan to find out if they will cover care and birth in our free-standing birth center. (Most insurance plans have absolutely no concept of what a free-standing birth center is. You have to tell them that it is not a hospital).
Lastly, know your plan. Are there deductibles for professional care?, for care in a facility? (these are out of pocket costs you must pay each year before your insurance kicks in.)? Are there co-pays? Is yours an HMO (a plan that requires you to use only participating providers)? If so, you may ask us if we are participating providers with your HMO (for instance, we do participate with non-Medicaid HIP as well as GHI).
